Wood Floors & Air Quality

Did you know that wood floors can directly impact your indoor air quality? Dust and common allergens are easily trapped in other floor coverings like carpet. Wood floors are also hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for allergy sufferers everywhere. Additionally, by being a carbon-neutral product, wood floors can further improve indoor air quality by continuing to store carbon even after they have been installed. By taking the steps to limit where allergens can gather, you are directly improving the air quality of your home, making it a happier, healthier space for you.

Mixed Materials: Tile & Hardwood Floors

One trend we’ve been seeing a lot of lately is having a mixed material floor transition from tile to hardwood. We love this unique way of highlighting the floors in your home. A tile to hardwood transition can make a dramatic entryway to your home or be a great way to showcase multiple materials in one room. Another reason this trend is great is because it allows you to highlight sections of your home that use gorgeous natural stone and hardwood, and by allowing the natural beauty to be a calming influence in your home. This can also be a fun way to play with patterns in your home, by using honeycomb tiles and other shapes to create geometric patterns and fascinating transitions. The possibilities are endless with this trend, allowing you to customize your dream home today!

Tool Talk Tuesday: Primatech 250

#tooltalk: Every hardwood company should spend around $700 on a primatech 250 for 3 reasons:

1. It will make your slowest employees about as fast at nailing as your fastest employees

2. Very few miss-nails. Saves time not having to set those.

3. Less physical to use due to rollers.

Home Meditation Rooms: What Are They & How To Create Yours

If you’re looking for a unique use to a spare room in your house, look no further. Home meditation rooms are a great way to add a quiet, relaxing space in your home. A home meditation room is like a small sanctuary where you can step away from the chaos of the day and unwind. Many use their meditation rooms for yoga, reading, or painting, whatever it may be that helps you relax. When creating a soothing space using natural materials is key, humans inherently find materials from nature to be more comforting. For example the light color of the hardwood floor in the second photo helps brighten the space and is paired with a soft white rug to enhance the cozy feeling of the space. Some choose for chairs in their meditation space while others opt for plush cushions and poufs for seating like in the photo below. Dark hardwood floors can also be used as a dramatic statement for your meditation room. Ultimately, your meditation room should be centered around things you find soothing when planning your design, but the possibilities are endless. Call West Coast Hardwood Floors for help installing the floor in your dream meditation room today!

Intro to Luxury Vinyl

When deciding on installing new luxury vinyl floors, it’s important to consider all of your options. There are multiple different types of LV that can be matched to your needs and lifestyle. For example, there are traditional planks that are made up of vinyl instead of wood (LVP), or peel and stick vinyl plank look-alikes. While these two are similar, LVP is more durable and tends to be easier to install. Another benefit of luxury vinyl floors is that they are stain resistant and dampen noise better than traditional hardwood floors, making them great for households with pets and children. LV floors create a sleek and attractive surface for your space, making it easy to keep your home beautiful and clean. To complete your space you can add transitions, mouldings, or additional trim pieces.

Scott Sayyah, Company Founder, 🌟Employee Spotlight🌟

I started West Coast Hardwood Floors in 1996. I have been licensed in Oregon and Washington for 25 years. I have been doing hardwood flooring for 31 years. I started in Chicago at 16 years old, working for a family friend who owned Arlington Hardwood Floors. My junior and senior year of high school, I worked on the ICE work school program. I had enough credits to go to school a half day, and go to work the second half. Both years I was awarded “class president” of the ICE school work program. All while maintaining a 3.9 grade point average.

In 2019, after starting work at 5 years old, my son, Nathan Sayyah, became co-owner of West Coast Hardwood Floors. Nathan and I, also do real estate investing together.

In addition to working for Arlington Hardwood Floors, I had my own side business installing hardwood floors in Chicago. After moving to Oregon, I worked for JC Hardwood floors for 1 year. At this point, I decided to start my own company in Lincoln City. The city boy loved the coast, but missed the hustle! From there I settled for good in my beloved Sherwood, my company growing along with Sherwood. I raised my 3 children Anna, Nathan, and Olivia there as a single parent for 12 years. I love Sherwood, the schools, and the people! After I came home from doing hardwood flooring, I would fix up the houses me and the kids lived in. I was able to flip a house every 3 years, helping me to raise my 3 kids and give them a stable life.

By 16 years old, I had won trophies in wrestling and wrestling tournaments. I also competed in a Triathlon. At 14 years old, a friend and I biked 600 miles from Lake Villa, Illinois, to Washington Island, Wisconsin, and back, alone. I also trained for bodybuilding. My goals were to win the Tour De France, and win Mister All Natural Illinois in bodybuilding. I chose to pursue starting a family instead of these goals.

Starting a family at 19 years old was not easy. However, my success lies with my family, which is something money, higher education, and my goals could not buy. Being able to raise 3 independent, self sufficient, God fearing children, was the greatest award I ever achieved! As Jehovah’s Witnesses, we put family and spiritual interests first. That is the key to my success!

Bold Re-stain Options

If you’re wanting to make a room really unique, you can opt to restain or do a colorwash in a bold color. This is a different take on having an accent wall, and instead having the floor be the focal point. For example, the turquoise color washed floor pictured provides a bright pop of color, without being too intrusive. This can be a great way to add a personal touch to your space. Color washing your floors can also allow you to match your floors to a monochrome color scheme, creating unity within the space. With wood floors being one of the main ways you can add value to your home, you should do it in a way unique to you.

Renovating Your Home To Sell

When preparing to sell your home, you might be wondering where to start with repairs and renovations to make your house feel new again. One of the easiest ways to create that new home feeling without breaking the bank is by repairing and refinishing your hardwood floors. Or by opting to tear out your carpet and replacing it with hardwood or LVP. A simple flooring upgrade can add value to your home before you sell and make it look amazing. If you already have hardwood floors and you choose to refinish them, you can also choose to re-stain your floors and put a new coat of paint on your walls to completely change a room. Another budget friendly choice is to have an accent wall in your room, saving you the cost of repainting an entire space while giving your home a new, unique focal point. Additionally, adding decorative trim or moldings around your floors can provide your room with an elegant finishing touch.
