Recent White Oak Restoration

A few pictures from recent white oak restoration our team completed. There was a ton of patching, vents needed added, we installed stairs, and leveled portions of downstairs so we could add lvp. The floors really transformed this whole house! More pics to come but enjoy these before and afters!

Statement Stairs

In the ever growing world of home improvement there are many ways to make your home unique or give it a custom twist when remodeling. The first step to creating your perfect stairs is determining what type of wood you’re going to go with, or maybe you have existing wood stairs in need of a makeover. Some great ways to make your stairs unique to your home are by adding a custom inlay, like we created in the photo below, using unique railings, or opting to use character grade wood, which has more knots and “imperfections” that make the wood more eye-catching. Plus with character grade wood, no one piece is the same, which will give you a look unlike anyone else's! Tricks like these will help you create bold statement stairs for any space!

Lace-In or Weave-In Tips For Hardwood

Lace-in or weave-in tips for hardwood:

1. Try to remove a board and find a mill stamp. If you can find that, consult with a supplier to find the best match to the characteristics of the existing floor.

2. Lace in within a 2-3’ space of the existing wood. Don’t go past 3’. It’s timing consuming, more expensive, and unecessary.

3. Do not stair step your seem pattern. But give thought to the arrangement of seems because it’s easy to line them up with minimal board removal.

4. Glue every tongue and groove that isn’t getting nailed.

5. Sand on a 45 degree angle (or less) to remove substantial over wood (1/16”+)

LVP or Hardwood?

When renovating or building a home it can be difficult to decide what type of flooring to choose. In today’s market there are tons of options and it can be hard to figure out which one is right for you. One thing to take into consideration is the ongoing wood shortages driving up hardwood prices. With hardwood flooring being on the more expensive side, some may opt to go with LVP instead. LVP and hardwood both have benefits and drawbacks, so we created a chart to help you determine what best fits your needs!

Our Most Popular Species & Stains This Season

This has definitely been a year with lots of oak hardwood floors. Both white and red oak are a popular flooring choice because there can be so much variation in the wood and it looks beautiful without a stain. Because of this we’ve been seeing our clients opt for a simple clear coat over their floors to showcase the natural beauty of the wood. Oak is an incredibly versatile species and can be matched to just about any style! Check out some of our examples of how unique oak floors can look.

Trending Hardwood Species For Kitchen Floors

Hardwood floors have always been a popular choice for kitchens, but there are so many different species and stains it can be hard to make a decision. Oak is a popular choice because of how versatile it can be. It takes a stain well and looks beautiful on its own, which is great for homeowners wanting to create a “raw” or natural wood look. Another popular choice right now is cherry, with its warm reddish brown tones it can create a very cozy kitchen. Cherry is also another species that takes a stain well and can be used to create some flattering ebony hardwood floors. Both of these species are incredibly versatile and can be used to create some truly unique kitchens.

We noticed a big valley and decided to fill it in with sika 825 leveler. Although it added an additional day to the job with dry time, we believe the end product will be much more satisfying.

Our teams goal is to find the best solution to customers problems. Time, costs, and quality are the big three to balance when an issue arises. For instance, if time is an issue, a customer will likely need to pay more, and the quality will suffer slightly. Or if quality is the biggest thing, if they really want to fix the issue, cost and time will increase.

Most importantly, a person that can solve customer’s issues, without the customers feeling the stress of it, will become very valuable.
