West Coast Hardwood Floors 26th Anniversary

This year West Coast Hardwood Floors turns twenty-six and we’re excited to celebrate with our community. Founded by Scott Sayyah in 1995, West Coast Hardwood Floors remains a family owned and operated business, expanding to include Scott’s son as a co-owner Nathan in 2019. Servicing the entire Portland Metro area and Vancouver, we are currently setting up our new office in Wilsonville. Originally founded in Lincoln City, we had been headquartered in Sherwood since 1996 until our recent relocation to Wilsonville. The past few decades have given us the opportunity to grow with the local community and create lasting professional relationships.

We’re hiring! West Coast Hardwood Floors is an expanding hardwood floor company dedicated to delivering beautiful wood floors. Our team is looking for world class individuals who value the same things we do:

1. Teamwork - Everyone works towards a common goal - delivering exceptional floors. Every individual’s effort either benefits or harms the other members of the team.

2. Ownership - Each individual member of the team treats our business like it is their own. When issues arise, they take ownership of their actions and look to find solutions.

3. Growth Minded - Members of the team must individually have goals for themselves. They must strive to improve each day and increase their expectations for themselves.

We welcome all levels of experience! If you’re a journeyman, we like to give you the opportunity to manage your own job sites, drive a company vehicle, and interact with customers. If you have no experience, that's fine too. We just ask that individuals to honestly assess whether they can live up to our core values on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis.

Expectations:

1. Share our core values

2. Clean driving record, reliable transportation.

3. Consent for criminal background checks and drug tests if we deem necessary.

4. Be able to meet the physical requirements for the job. I.e. lift over 100lbs from floor to waist level     and walk with it distances of 50 ft +

5. Eventually meet our expectations for demolition, installation, sanding, and finishing of real     hardwood floors as well as other tasks.

6. Show up to work everyday, on time.

Benefits:

1. High industry pay

2. Amazing team environment

3. Overtime

4. Pto

5. Attendance bonus

6. Discretionary bonus

7. Sales commissions

8. Employee referral commissions

9. 8 Holidays off

10. Employee recognition on socials

Trend highlight: “natural” look of the wood, clear coat, no stain to alter the color of the wood. A beautiful example of highlighting natural wood can be found below from a project we completed last month for a client.

Material Shoutout: Material feature with a shoutout to Graf Bros for providing this gorgeous oak flooring pictured below!

Common Wood Species Used For Flooring

There are a number of species of hardwoods that are popular to be used as flooring. The most common species by far is red oak, as it is common in the US and fairly affordable prior to the lumber shortage. White oak is also common for flooring, but has a slightly grayish tone to it. While it can be stained, it has a natural medium blonde quality to it, as can be seen in the picture below.

Another common species for flooring is maple. There are a number of types of maple, with varying grain patterns and blonde tones. Maple planks can have unique figuring that can make a bold statement or can be matched to create a uniform look.

Walnut is a gorgeous choice for dark wood flooring options. It isn’t terribly expensive, and comes in a variety of grades to match your taste. It can range from a medium to dark chocolate color, creating a cozy ambiance.
