2021 Flooring Influences

There are a number of factors influencing design trends this year, but Covid has presented as a unique factor in dictating this year’s trends. For example, neutral tones and natural materials will be making a comeback because they provide a sense of comfort and security. Another flooring trend that will be popular is bold grain patterned hardwood floors. These bold grain patterns are great for showcasing the natural beauty of hardwood and can be the highlight of a room. The pandemic has also made cleanliness a topic of discussion, meaning people will be more likely to move away from carpet due to it trapping more dust and allergens. Hardwood and LVP are easy to maintain and clean, some LVP manufacturers, like Mannington Mills, are even creating products with antimicrobial surfaces for additional protection against germs. Products like this are likely to be popular in both residential and commercial spaces with so many benefits.

Mixed Materials: Tile & Hardwood Floors

One trend we’ve been seeing a lot of lately is having a mixed material floor transition from tile to hardwood. We love this unique way of highlighting the floors in your home. A tile to hardwood transition can make a dramatic entryway to your home or be a great way to showcase multiple materials in one room. Another reason this trend is great is because it allows you to highlight sections of your home that use gorgeous natural stone and hardwood, and by allowing the natural beauty to be a calming influence in your home. This can also be a fun way to play with patterns in your home, by using honeycomb tiles and other shapes to create geometric patterns and fascinating transitions. The possibilities are endless with this trend, allowing you to customize your dream home today!

Hardwood Floors & Sustainability

Hardwood floors are a great option if you are concerned about having an eco-friendly home. For example, opting to refinish your floors instead of replacing them can dramatically decrease a home’s carbon footprint. By choosing a quality hardwood floor and maintaining it properly you can also save large amounts of money in the long run. In terms of maintenance, hardwood floors are relatively easy to maintain and in return provide a beautiful and durable product. Additionally, hardwood flooring is produced from a renewable, natural source, making it a go to choice for many builders and homeowners looking to create a green building. Wood flooring is classified as a carbon neutral product by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) because it continues to trap carbon even as a manufactured product. If you’re looking to make your home more eco-friendly, consider making the switch to hardwood floors today!
